Buenas,
I just wanted to alert you to a slight change of plans. We will be doing our Interactive Oral Activity (IB exam prep) on Thursday (and Friday for period 2)of this week instead of tomorrow (el martes). Tomorrow we will have a brief review for our quiz on Wednesday (over vocab, saber/conocer, and indirect objet pronouns) and we will begin the preterite tense (notes practice, etc.)
Lo siento por el last minute change, but I think this will work better with the hectic schedule this week with some students being gone Thurs/Fri period 2 for ACT pre-testing procedures.
Mil gracias!
Sra. Fred
P.S. En otras palabras, no hay tarea 'oficial' esta noche.

Ab Initio Reminder: Spring Break/ Europe Trip tarea
While in Europe (or wherever) on Spring Break take photos of scenes that could effectively be used as visual stimuli for oral practices or assessments. Return with (at least) three photos, preferably digital, that reflect a variety of places, situations, people, and aspects of daily life. Consider the seven IB topics [the individual (the self and others; the home), education and work (school; future plans), town and services (shopping; public services and communication), food and drink (shopping; eating out; food), leisure and travel (hobbies/free time; the area; holidays and traveling; accommodation), the environment (weather; physical geography/the world; environmental concerns), health and emergencies (physical health; emergencies)] when selecting and setting up your shots. Consider the who, what, when, where…of the scene you are capturing. The more going on, the more material you’ll have to build the content of your speaking.
It wouldn’t hurt to be interdisciplinary and to consider the elements and principles of art (space, color, movement/rhythm, balance, emphasis, proportion, etc.) in composing your photo!
For those of you who departed early for Spring Break and were not in attendance for our last class, remember that you also need to have completed the transcription, editing, and written development of your Oral Practice/Dibujo Assignment. This will be due on Monday/Es para el lunes.

De compras en los mercados de artesanías
In Mexican Mercados de artesanías one can find a great variety of handcrafted items (hecho a mano) that reflect la cultura indígena and blend old traditions with new ones. Textiles (clothing, blankets, lace), leather goods (purses, shoes, belts), jewelry, pottery, paintings/drawings, and alebrije (whimsically painted animals carved from wood) are all traditional items one can seek out in these markets to try out their skill at el regateo.
Lección 6: De compras en el mercado
Miren estas fotos del Mercado Benito Juarez en Oaxaca, México....
En este mercado, se vende comida de todo tipo: la fruta, las verduras, los chiles, la carne, el pan, el queso, etc.
Intercultural comparison: How do food markets in México compare to food/produce markets and supermarkets in the EE.UU.? What similarities/differences can you find and how are those a reflection of the respective culture?

Practica Oral
Hola. Just a note to communicate that you might want to bring along headphones to class tomorrow if you prefer to transcribe your oral practice without allowing others to hear. Certainly, using headphones will make it easier for you to listen and transcribe without interference from others! Please pass this info along to others who might not be checking the blog! Gracias!
